First Forum by Iranian and Portuguese Professors and Researchers in the Fields of Science and Technology was held

At the initiative of the Iranian Scientific and Research Working Group resident in Portugal and with the support of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lisbon, the first joint forum was held in online format on Wednesday, July 14 by Iranian and Portuguese professors, researchers and entrepreneurs in science and technology with more than 35 participants.

In this virtual meeting, Dr. Damanpak Jami, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Lisbon, congratulated the initiative in holding this event, with the aim of promoting scientific, academic, technical and industrial cooperation between Iran and Portugal, and considered the presence of a significant number of Iranian and Portuguese professors and scholars from universities, research centers and industrial and commercial institutes of the two countries as a great opportunity and expressed hope that, by holding such forums, we could witness the opening of a new chapter in relations and cooperation between the two countries in the fields of science and technology.

The Ambassador of our country added that, certainly, one of the reasons behind the existence of fields suitable to the promotion of scientific research and technological relations between the two countries is the 500 years of historical and cultural relations between Iran and Portugal. Another reason is the presence of more than 500 Iranian students, researchers and professors active in Portugal – a number which is increasing – has created an optimal environment for this type of cooperation. The signing of at least twenty MoU on academic cooperation between Iran and Portugal has also created another important foundation for deepening scientific and research cooperation.

Dr. Damanpak Jami also stated that Iran and Portugal have made significant scientific progress and achievements in various scientific and research fields, and in some areas of research such as knowledge-based activities, technology and start-ups, new energies, medicine and nanotechnology, the two sides can increase collaboration. Cooperation between Pardis Science and Technology Park and Taguspark – which are in the process of finalizing an MoU and establishing joint knowledge-based companies – can be the result of such cooperation.

The virtual meeting also served as a platform for the participating university professors and entrepreneurs to present their ideas how to increase the existing relations between the fields of science, research and industry and elaborated on how to implement such cooperation, in the short term, by using the capacities of the university and market place.
